Summary: Ephesians was written to a church who were living like paupers when they possessed everything. The reason for their poverty, was that they didn’t understand who they were.

Ephesians 1:1-3
I. The Author (1a)
A. Apostle of Jesus Christ – commissioner, one sent
B. History at Ephesus (Acts 19)
1. Over 2 years preaching & teaching
2. Unusual miracles that others could not duplicate
3. Acts 19:10, “all they which dwelt in Asia heard
the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks”
II. The Assembly (1b-2)
A. Ephesians
1. 12 disciples of John that Paul first encountered
2. Magicians converted and burned books (50K silver)
3. Dear relationship w/ Paul – wept bitterly when see
his face no more (Acts 20)
B. Everyone
1. ‘The’ faithful in Christ Jesus
2. Those who have faith in Christ Jesus
III. The Aim (3)
A. The Source of our Blessings – God
1. James 1:17, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is
from above, and cometh down from the Father of
lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow
of turning”
2. 2 Cor. 9:15, “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable
gift”
B. The Scope of our Blessings
1. Every spiritual blessing
2. Verses 4-14 (next sermon)
C. The Sphere of our Blessings – in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus
1. Our citizenship is in Heaven (Phil. 3:20)
2. Our name is written in Heaven (Luke 10:20)
3. Our Father is in Heaven (Matt. 6:9)
4. Our attention & affection ought to be centered in Heaven
