Summary: Of Jesus God says "This is my beloved Son whom I am well pleased, wouldn't we want that said by God of us. This series examines how to live a God pleasing Life.

Pleasing GOD

Matt 17:5 and 1 Peter 2:17

This is my beloved Son whom I am well pleased.

It is from the beauty of His meekness and the Supremacy of His Servanthood that pleases God.

Isaiah 42:1 says, "Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight;

Everyone one of us should want to do this be the servant that God delights in.

Paul says: Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more (1 Thess. 4:1)

So how should we live?

Lets look at what Jesus did.

Jonathan Edwards says; In Jesus meet infinite highness and infinite grace, infinite glory and the lowest humility, infinite majesty and transcendent meekness, deepest reverence toward God and equality with GOD, worthiness of good and the greatest patience under the suffering of evil. A great spirit of obedience and the supreme dominion over heaven and earth, absolute sovereignty and perfect resignation, self-sufficiency and an entire trust and reliance on GOD.

1. He did His Will

a. John 17:4 he completed the mission

b. John 14:20 I do exactly what My Father Commands

c. We can please God by doing His Will.

2. Jesus was controlled/filled with the Holy Spirit

a. Holy Spirit came on him like a dove (Mt 3:17)

b. He was led by the Spirit.

c. He was obedient to death (Phil 2:8)

J.C. Ryle said:

Zeal is a burning desire to please God to do His will and to advance the Glory of God in this world in every possible way. A zealous man is preeminently a man of one thing, he is more earnest, hearty, uncompromising, wholehearted and ferverent in spirit. He sees one thing, cares about one thing, swallowed up in one thing and that one thing is to please GOD.

We can please GOD

a. Hebrews 11:6 says without faith we cannot please GOD, so we have FAITH.

b. We live our lives controlled by the Spirit (Romans 8:8)

c. Eccl. 12:13 obey God, keep his commands.

What are we commanded?

-to pray

-Have fellowship

-Love our enemies

-Obey all God commanded but to do it out of love.

God reserves the best for those who leave the choice to Him. The Father exults with joy over the servantlike meekness and compassion of His Son, and when we show those same characteristics, HE IS PLEASED.

Prayer:

Lord strengthen what is weak in me

Shine your light in what is dark in me

Heal what is sick in me

Bind what is broken in me

Resurrect in me where Love and Peace have died

And may I serve you fully.
