After many stern warnings and instructions to His missionaries, to His disciple makers, Jesus closes the discourse with a promise. Those who faithfully served the Lord & who faithfully support these workers will be rewarded.

Jesus speaks His authoritative Word & the strife and rage of demonic possession flees & leaves a great calm in its place. Jesus exercised authority & compassion that freed people even from demon possession.

Jesus openly warns that the missionary aspect of the mission of His followers would be countered with serious & even deadly opposition. Yet Jesus also knew that danger & even threat of death could not defeat a soul set ablaze by His eternal love.

6. The Twelve Apostles

Jesus had personally demonstrated His authority previously in Matthew. He now delegates that same authority to His apostles so that they may carry out His ministry to the world.

What brings people to Jesus? People came to Jesus because He was involved in ministry. Jesus was exercising authority and compassion that brought healing & life to people.

We must not separate Jesus’ life or teachings from His miraculous works. They are intertwined together to give us the message Jesus was sent to bring. The miracles serve to validate Jesus as the Messiah of God & to authenticate His claims & teachings.
