The minute you open up the Bible it’s as if God has taken your face in His hands, is looking you in the eyes, and saying: “Read my lips … I am God … I am Elohim … I am the eternal Creator and Sustainer of Life who made you so that I can love you and you can love me.”
Names … We all have them … be dumb if we didn’t, amen? You can’t go around saying “Hey you over there” all day. Names make sense … but how often do you think about your name … or names? Freedom comes when I realize that I am not in charge of the universe … God is … and I let Him do His job and I do mine … which is to be an attentive and obedient servant of the Lord and Master of the universe.
I am a slave. Not because I am being forced to be a slave but because I want to. Part of our problem today is that we’ve become too casual with God. Instead of hesitating to even pronounce His name, we use His name flippantly. It is to be spoken with deep reverence and profound respect … even fear.
I guess I was about 4 years old when I realized that my mother had another name besides “Mom” … and one day I decided to call her by that name instead of “Mom.” Big mistake. When Abraham experienced Jehovah’s provision, he built an altar so that he would remember that day. The Lord’s Table is our Mount Moriah … where we come to remember that Jehovah is our “jireh” … our provider.

Men have a crucial part to play in the lives of their children. Unfortunately, we have bought into the lie that we that play a minor role in raising up our own children. We need to shake off that lie and step up and own up to our responsibility as men of God.
Poppa … Pops … Pa … Dad … Daddy … Father … Sir! Our heavenly Father, like our earthly fathers, has many different names.
