These cities of refuge were a fore shadow of the Lord Jesus who was to come to save us, and protect us hundreds of years later. God had ordained this beautiful plan of salvation through Jesus and the city of refuge is a trailer of God's plan.

2. City Of Refuge - Kedesh

The reason why there is so much detail mentioned even with regards to the names of these cities, is to help us understand that this was historical, and not just a made-up story. We will look at the name Kedesh which means ‘holy’ or ‘sacred place.’

In the previous message we studied the name of the first city named ‘Kedesh’ which meant ‘holy.’ For this message we will study the name of the second city ‘Shechem’ which means ‘shoulder.’

The reason for such details about these cities of refuge was these were a fore-shadow of the coming of the Lord Jesus who will be the refuge for all of mankind. Nothing in the bible was recorded without a purpose, but every word that is written has a reason.

We are studying the meaning of the name of the fourth city which was called ‘Bezer’ which means, ‘inaccessible place or stronghold or fortress.’ It is a place where no evil could come near. Bezer reminds us that God is a refuge to all those who trust in Him.

If we observe people these days a majority live as though they are going to live in this world forever. There is no fear of God, no thought about God’s judgement, and a majority live as though their lives on earth is permanent.
