A well-known coach was once asked,
“How much does college football contribute to the national physical-fitness picture?”
“Nothing,” the coach replied abruptly.
“Why not?” the startled interviewer asked.
“Well,” said the coach, “the way I see it, you have 22 men down on the field desperately

In his book, Love Beyond Reason, author John Ortberg retells a wonderful story by Deborah Tannen:
My great aunt, for many years a widow, had a love affair when she was in her seventies. Obese, balding, her hands and legs misshapen by arthritis, she did not fit the stereotype of a woman

There is an appropriate historical example of this folly of ruling out something ahead of time because it does not fit with one’s view of the world. When explorers first came to Australia, they encountered an animal the defied all known laws of taxonomy. They discovered a semiaquatic, egg-laying

A man rises to face his day like usual. This day, however, he has a doctor appointment. He’s had to work really hard to fit it into his busy schedule. He expected the dr. to be a long wait and to have to allow for that extra time. What he didn’t expect, though, was to hear that he might have a

In 1982 there was a letter to the editor which read, “Dear Editor, I would like to tell your readers how mad I was when I was forced to go out and pay $45 for an infant seat, and to top it off we couldn’t fit everybody in my pickup truck with that big bulky thing. On April 2, my wife was forced to

FORGIVEN
My pastor for most of my life, Dr. Harold Sightler, used to tell of a woman bad to shout. (He would stop there and say, I mean "good" to shout.) When they mentioned Jesus in sermon or song, she would say, "Hallelujah, praise the Lord." The dead, dry church she attended didn’t like this.
