A GIRL’S PRAYER
When in college Robert J , Morgan came across a poem written by a teenage girl looking for a husband. It was written as a prayer, and this is what she said:
Dear God, I pray all unafraid / As girls are wont to be
I do not want a handsome man /
But make him, Lord, like Thee.
I do not need one big and strong / nor yet so very tall,
Nor need he be some genius / or wealthy, Lord, at all;
But let his head be high, dear God, /
and let his eye be clear,
His shoulders straight, whate’er his fate /
whate’er his earthly sphere.
And let his face have character, / a ruggedness of soul,
And let his whole life show, dear God, /
a singleness of goal.
And when he comes / as he will come
With quiet eyes aglow / I’ll know, dear Lord,
That he’s the man / I prayed for long ago.
I think God answered her prayer well. You see, the name of the girl who wrote that poem was Ruth Bell, and she later met and married—

The new Billy Graham $27 million, 40,000-square-foot library opened recently in Charlotte, North Carolina.
It holds childhood photos of Mr. Graham; his college yearbook, in which he said he wanted to be an evangelist; the tiny engagement ring he gave his wife, Ruth; and footage of his rousing sermons over the decades, from Los Angeles to Moscow, in which he urged people to open their hearts to Christ.
“My father is 88 years old, and he still wants to preach, but his body is just worn out,” Franklin Graham said on a tour of the library before the ceremony. “I hope this library can be an extension of his life. I hope it can be of use long after he’s in heaven.”
Billy Graham said, “I’ve been here at the library once, and my one comment when I toured it was that it is too much Billy Graham. My whole life has been to please the Lord and honor Jesus, not to see me and think of me.”
In 1 Corinthians 11: 1, Paul said, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” He means here to follow him as, and ONLY as, he follows Christ’s example. I think Billy Graham would say the same to us. Thank the LORD for faithful men of God to follow!
May you and I be found faithful, too!
