SEVERAL SUBSEQUENT BOOKS MET THE SAME FATE AS THEY BARELY MADE A SCRATCH ON THE LITERATURE RADAR SCREEN. IN FACT IT WAS NOT UNTIL 1954 WHEN LIFE MAGAZINE PUBLISHED A REPORT CONCERNING ILLITERACY AMONG SCHOOL CHILDREN AND ITS PUBLISHER CONTACTED DR. SEUSS . . . COULD HE DEVELOP A STORY USING A MAXIMUN OF 250 OF 400 WORDS (THE IDEA OF HOW MANY WORDS AT ONE TIME A FIRST GRADER COULD ABSORB) THAT DR. SEUSS WOULD USE 220 WORDS AND CREATE HIS ALL TIME MASTERPIECE THE CAT IN THE HAT.

FROM HIS CAT IN THE HAT, SEUSS WOULD OBTAIN GREAT NOTORIETY. IN RECALLING HIS TRIP FROM OBSCURITY TO NOTORIETY, SEUSS SUMMED UP HIS LIFE IN A BOOK ENTITLED OH, THE MANY PLACES YOU’LL GO.

THE BOOK DETAILED THE GREAT BALANCING ACT THAT LIFE ITSELF AND THE UPS AND DOWNS CAN PRESENT.
