Trust Counts: 13% of employees distrust their employers to be fair and honest. Virtually no combination of perks and benefits counts for much, unless the worker can feels he can trust his employer. Dennis and Michelle Reina, authors of Trust & Betrayal in the Workplace, say it’s the small gestures that often matter most. Behaviors such as respecting others, sharing information, admitting mistakes, giving constructive feedback, keeping secrets, avoiding gossip and backbiting, being consistent and involving others in decision-making build and retain trust. Does this list sound like something the Apostle Paul said? Trust reduces turnover, improves performance and enhances profits.
