Tenney notes this: God’s name is significant in that, In the past he was with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. What was needed was not a name which disclosed that God was what He was, but that He is and will be in the future what He admittedly was in the past. The God of their fathers and, therefore, the God of their children, the children of Israel, who therefore should accept Moses’ claim that God called him to deliver them out of Egypt” (pg. 238).
