Excused Or Forgiven?
Contributed by John Bright on Jul 12, 2026 (message contributor)
Here’s an interesting question for you: Do you want to be forgiven or excused? Back in the 1990s, there was a wonderful book – “Yes, Lord, I Have Sinned: But I Have Several Excellent Excuses” by James W. Moore. When we seek to be excused, it’s a way of shifting blame.
In the Garden of Eden, both Adam and Eve had excuses: Genesis 3:11-13 “11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”
12 Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”
13 And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
We do the same thing! Nothing has changed! You see, to be forgiven, we have to admit that we are wrong. What’s the beginning of repentance? You have to say: "God, you’re right & I’m wrong."
