[337]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM - WHAT MY SAVIOUR’S DONE (Version 2)

This is short poem. The end of each line has an AABB etc. rhyme.

The title is simple. {{Mark 5:19-20 and He did not let him, but He said to him, “Go home to your people and report to them WHAT GREAT THINGS THE LORD HAS DONE FOR YOU and how He had mercy on you,” and he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis WHAT GREAT THINGS JESUS HAD DONE FOR HIM and everyone marvelled.}}

In the Mark verses above, we read of the great things the Lord has done and that is what the poem is about.

Have you ever bothered to list down what the Lord has done for you? It can be an interesting exercise.

This poem has two versions. The first one also has an initial rhyming at the start of each line. This one, Version 2, can be sung and the suggested tune is given.

The poem retains the rhyme scheme of Version 1. Each line has the rhyming “ought” sound near the start and the AABB at the end.

WHAT MY SAVIOUR’S DONE (Version 2)

Christ bought me with His precious blood He shed at Calvary.

He brought me with a tender love into His liberty.

He caught me in my wayward life and turned my course around.

Christ fought for me the battle great to gain redemption’s ground.

But nought He left on my account to rise up and accuse.

So ought not I then thankful be and all His ways I’ll choose.

He sought for me the very best His love could then bestow,

And taught me of the Father’s grace where mercy did o’erflow.

He wrought for me acceptance sure and sealed me in the Bride,

For all these blessings then confirm that God is on our side.

9 May 1999 R.E.Ferguson 14 throughout or 8-6 all AABB etc.

Many tunes will fit this one E.g. - How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds in a Believer’s Ear.”
