[315]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM - THOUGHTS PROMPTED BY ROMANS CHAPTER 1
This is not taking the bible’s verses for Romans 1 and refashioning them for a poem as I do sometimes. The poem is based on thoughts from the reading of the chapter, not on exposition of the chapter.
The opening chapter of Romans is the basis for the development of the chief ideas in the book. The whole heart of the human being is laid bare in this chapter and the depraved state of the person is revealed.
It is into that scene that the Lord Jesus Christ came to create a new man out of the reprobate one featured in Romans 1.
The righteous man will live by faith and that is made possible through Christ taking the wrath of God against sin, that wrath that comes on a sinful world. {{Romans 1:18 “The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.”}}
Through the redemptive work of the cross, salvation now comes through faith to all who will believe. The operation of this is the preaching of the gospel – {{Romans 1:15-16 “Thus, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome for I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek”}}
I hope the poem will be an encouragement for you all.

THOUGHTS PROMPTED BY ROMANS CHAPTER 1
The righteous man shall live by faith,
Ordained by God, the Righteous One.
That faith based in the Son of God
Whose work on earth for us was done.
The gospel in its fullness preached
That now for us - sin’s judgment - none!
=================
The wrath of God hangs over all,
Life’s guillotine before your sight,
And fall it must because of sin,
Condemning you to endless night -
And yet God’s mercy caused that blade
To fall on Christ to make you right!
=================
Salvation realised fully now
By everyone who has believed,
Claimed thankfully from Jesus Christ,
By those who have not been deceived.
Repent and come along with us -
His pardon we have all received.
=================
The righteous man shall live by faith,
Ordained by God, the Righteous One.
My Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ,
My Substitute, my freedom won.
O come to Him all you unsaved -
Please come to know the lovely Son.

God's grace as the avenue of salvation is sometimes seen as being in conflict with obedience of the believer as a requirement, without which salvation cannot be obtained. Which is it, or is it a combination? Can this dichotomy be satisfactorily resolved?
