[306]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM - THINGS ARE NOT WHAT THEY SEEM
People can observe something and take that limited observation and construct an edifice from it that turns out to be very wrong. That is the problem with making conclusions from limited information.
At the time of Christopher Columbus many people thought the earth (therefore the sea) was flat and if you went too far you’d fall off the earth. When we think we understand something then we may not.
When I was a boy I had (and still do have) a fascination with astronomy. In the early 1950s many of the astronomers, if not all, thought Venus could be a planet with thick jungles and very tropical.
Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli in 1877 discovered “canals” on Mars and instantly the world was intrigued with intelligent life making these canals. Mars was inhabited and Venus too, maybe!
"The War of the Worlds" was written by H. G. Wells between 1895 and 1897 and was first published in 1898, becoming one of the most famous science fiction books of all time. It was suggested by what people thought of Mars – intelligent life, and they then invaded Earth. Well the conclusion was obvious because canals had been constructed on Mars!
The examples given show that wrong conclusions can be made from observations and then these feed off each other. The poem looks at a small area of Darwin’s observations. The Piltdown Man gets a mention also. Darwin’s bird in the poem were finches.
Piltdown man, (Eoanthropus dawsoni), a proposed species of extinct hominins (members of the human lineage) that served as the subject one of the most successful hoaxes in the history of science. Fossil remains of Piltdown man were discovered in England in 1910–12; however, they were later proved to be fraudulent, despite being sufficiently convincing to generate a scholarly controversy that lasted more than 40 years.
The world was fooled by canals on Mars. The scientific world was deluded by the Piltdown Man. Things are not what they seem!
Men and women strain to believe something as long as it is not associated with God or religion. They are deluded by the lie. There is only one true certainty in life and that is what God has revealed to us, and that is THE BIBLE. If any theory or any conjecture and any movements do not line up with God’s word, then it is false and must be rejected.
Within the “Christian church” there is much that is based on “what seems” and not on “what is the truth”. {{Colossians 2:18 “Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind.”}}
{{Colossians 2:23 “These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.”}}
{{Colossians 2:8 “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.”}}

THINGS ARE NOT WHAT THEY SEEM
The sun rises in the east, and tracks its passage
Until it sets in the west, to begin again.
To the logical mind that observes its crossing,
It circumnavigates the earth, fixed in its reign.
======================
Round the earth the sun will go for we observe it;
The evidence is plain to see, proven by sight.
How can observation dispute what’s logical,
Because the sun goes round the earth, and that is right!
======================
However, that is not right, and logic has failed;
Making apparent conclusions may be absurd.
One of the worst fools to walk the earth was Darwin.
False conclusions he made when he observed a bird.
======================
No matter what Darwin observed, he was so wrong.
His conclusions were based on his stupidity.
The popularity of evolution’s lie,
Is no credible proof of its validity.
======================
The world will readily embrace any notion
That will cancel the Lord God from the equation.
Any substitute, or vanity of folly,
Will be grasped at promptly, with godless laudation.
======================
Things aren’t what they seem, and with correct discernment,
And scientific honesty, the “Piltdown man”
Of evolution, would face exposure as false.
But to eliminate the devil’s hoax – who can?
