[237 K] [11]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM - SCENES FROM THE GOSPELS - PART 11

They are here to enjoy! Scenes from the Gospels are very special to me. I love them. They have taken a lot of effort, and many, many months revision to get them as correct as possible with the difficult word limitations. Primarily they are meant more to be read aloud, than read silently as normal poems. They require voice flexibility and expression/intonation/varying speed.

I have placed commas in places where commas don’t normally go but they are there for a distinct short pause. The word before the pause has a more marked emphasis and the first word after the comma is emphasised on the very first syllable. It is like each line is in two short parts. There is inflection and expression in each line. For example –

See him sit, . . . . at Jesus’ feet.

Satan’s power, . . . . met defeat.

In his right mind, . . . . now discreet.

After a while you will feel a balance - I hope! There are twelve of these sections with 5 short scenes in each. The particular incidents are not named here but are done so at the end of my originals, in a table. I don’t think you will have much difficulty identifying them.

They are all written in two stanzas of six lines each with the rhyme scheme: A-A-A-B B-B. The same metre is used throughout: 7-7-7-6-6-7. I trust you will enjoy these and catch something of the excitement of these Gospel incidents.

The incidents written about are both parables and stories of Jesus.

FIFTY-ONE

And if your eye - clear it be,

Your whole body - purity!

So full of light - clarity!

Body’s lamp, is the eye.

It’s health, do not deny.

So on bible light, rely.

If your eye, dull vision owns,

Any evil, it condones.

In blackness then, body moans.

That eye, just sees blackness.

Body, gropes in darkness.

Shadows great, and nothing less.

FIFTY-TWO

In this world with sin, was born;

Dismal prospects, all forlorn;

Blind he was, from his first dawn.

Whose fault ‘tis, that he’s blind?

Parents or his? Your mind?

Who did sin, to cause this bind?

“No one sinned, for this sight’s ban;

Not his parents, or the man,

But for God’s works, is a plan.”

Blind man soon, sight received.

At Siloam, he believed.

Christ, Son of Man, met his need.

FIFTY-THREE

“One man died, with no offspring.

Brother next, then had his fling.

Wife had seven, in a string.

Brothers all, died away -

Poor wife too, one sad day.

Afterlife - whose wife you say?”

“Scriptures, you don’t understand.

After death, no marriage band.

Like the angels, all will stand.

God He’s not, of the dead;

Of the Patriarchs, you’ve read.

Living ones - He’s their Head.”

FIFTY-FOUR

On a colt, He was seated.

By the crowd, was He greeted.

Like a King, He was treated.

Laid their clothes, on a colt.

To their praise, was no halt.

Hosannahs loud, without fault.

Spread their garments, on the road,

While some, with palm branches, strode.

The donkey passed, with its load.

From the Lord, He is blessed.

He has come, it is stressed.

Son of David, with His quest.

FIFTY-FIVE

Ask of God - will be given.

Seek and find - won’t be hidden.

Keep knocking - and find open.

Ask of God, and receive.

Seek to find, but believe.

Knock, for God does not deceive.

Evil people - that you be.

Gifts to children, all do see.

Those presents good - and plenty.

Yes, a loaf not a stone;

A fish, not snake condone.

Good gifts, Father grants His own.
