Stewardship Billfold Story - Humor
Contributed by J Jeffrey Smead on Dec 3, 2025 (message contributor)
When I think of stewardship it brings to mind a story about a minister who was baptizing his new converts in a farm pond not far from the church.
One of the gentlemen that was being baptized was a prosperous farmer known in his community for his tight grip on the dollar.
When his name was called to come forward, the farmer, clad in overhauls left the bank to wade slowly toward the preacher.
“Wait a minute, preacher” he said, I forgot to take my billfold out of my pocket, I don't want to get it wet.
“Leave it where it is and come back out here” the preacher replied. “Your billfold needs to be baptized too.”
Unfortunately, many of Christian’s baptism never does reach their wallet.
I believe most people even non followers of the Christ will give out of their excess or abundance.
A steward of Christ, as we know, gives of his or her life.
To give up one's life is to give of one's time, talent, and finances.
While time, talent, and finances are all elements of stewardship; It seems to be the submission of finances that is most difficult for many Christians to discuss or to bring under the Lord’s submission.
