[235]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM - ROMANS 5 VERSES 3 - 5

This is a shorter poem based solely on 3 verses from Romans. Here are those verses –

{{Romans 5:3-5 “Not only this, but we also exult in our TRIBULATIONS, knowing that tribulation brings about PERSEVERANCE, and perseverance, PROVEN CHARACTER, and proven character, HOPE, and hope does not disappoint because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”}}

There are 4 steps in those verses and a stanza is dedicated to each of them with the 5th stanza concluding the passage.

I dare say this Romans passage is one of the very hardest for us to accommodate and learn. How often do we fail in one or all these great concepts:-

1. We grumble when troubles come our way.

2. We don’t persevere in the help of God but want to give up.

3. Our proven character is often not proven because we failed in the perseverance stage.

4. When overtaken by troubles/tribulation, we focus on that and lose sight of hope.

We have a glorious hope. That hope is of seeing the Lord and being with him in His glory. It is also the great hope of the Lord’s coming (for His Church in the Rapture). Too many Christians are pessimistic with a weak hope, and that might be because we fail these 4 steps.

In the progression Paul gives, the last one, hope, he says hope will not disappoint us but that is because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. That is a gift we did not deserve.

It was “tribulation” that began these steps and the next reference to tribulation in Romans is this – {{Romans 8:35 “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?”

AND THE ANSWER IS – ABSOLUTELY NOT. We are in the hollow of His hand.

ROMANS 5 VERSES 3 - 5

Distress and hurt may come to you,

As it does to each saint;

And fears and conflicts will rise up,

Your outlook black may paint.

=======================

Be not dismayed for these result

In God’s good will for you.

These he allows for your own good;

Endurance to pursue.

=======================

A character by God approved,

Is what endurance gains.

It pleases God to see this growth;

To see where His grace reigns.

=======================

The settled confidence of hope

Is what the outcome is.

For from distress we have progressed

To know the Lord through this.

=======================

The confidence that God then gives

Will never disappoint.

The love of God poured freely out,

Your heart will then anoint.
