The Preacher's New Suit
Contributed by Loyd C. Taylor on Jun 24, 2025 (message contributor)
The Preacher’s New Suit
I was recently invited to preach for the Sunday morning service.
Ice Breaker: For an introduction, I stated the following:
I introduced myself and then shared the following.
Hello, I'm LC Taylor and my wife is Kathy. My wife and I were discussing how honored we were that I had been asked to preach at this fine church, and she suggested that I buy a new suit for the occasion.
I stepped from side to side of the pulpit, then asked the congregation, “How do you like my new suit?”
The folk were genuinely impressed and graciously clapped their approval.
I then responded, “My wife told me to be sure to keep the receipts, so I could return it on Monday.”
The congregation cracked up with laughter.

One course I had in college was in adolescent psychology. Difficult class but the professor would let us bring a note card with as much information as we could get on it. That was a great help. Steve Winger writes about a final exam he took in a logic class at the university he attended. The ...read more

We put a lot of priority into the way we look, but God sees on the inside. God values character over appearance, and can rightly help us do the same as we trust him.
