[078]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – FAILURE LEADS TO HURT AND SORROW

This poem was written one Sunday morning while waiting for a church service to start. It flowed quickly. It was around the time I was speaking on a series in the life of Peter.

Identify yourselves if you have never failed the Lord? Maybe I should say, “. . . If you have failed the Lord often.” I don’t need to add more as you understand. We would all be like those who wanted to stone the woman but all slunk away in guilt.

Failure comes from not keeping on the straight path and wobbling off it, even falling off it. Our own old nature gets the better of us. There is no need to dwell on the fact of failure.

However the outcome of failure always leaves a mark. Do you think Peter ever forgot his denial of Jesus, but he was at peace with it because all was covered and long forgiven, never to be recalled again.

Isn’t it so wonderful that the Lord meets us in our failures and remedies them. John is so wonderful in the verses of his first letter and this in particular – 1 John 1:9-10

{{1 John 1:7-10 “but if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. IF WE CONFESS OUR SINS, HE IS FAITHFUL AND RIGHTEOUS TO FORGIVE US OUR SINS AND TO CLEANSE US FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS. If we say that we have not sinned we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”}}

When we fail the Lord, we hurt ourselves but we can hurt others as well. That is so evil. The blood of Christ cleanses from all sin.

FAILURE LEADS TO HURT AND SORROW

When I fail Him, I have hurt Him,

But I hurt myself so badly.

Failure is the scourge of weakness

Found in sinful natures, sadly.

===========================

What we promise is neglected;

What is vowed not to do, we do.

Fickle minded and unfaithful,

But trying always to be true.

===========================

Failure seizes when courage dies.

Satan’s accusations assail.

That’s the foul fruit that we will reap

Each time, our previous Lord we fail.

===========================

Peter knew in denial’s night,

The blackness when slip led to slide.

Horrible failure swallowed him.

He went to find a place to hide.

===========================

Jesus knows our frail commitment;

Yes, He knows our heart’s desires.

Creatures of the dust – we own that,

But to serve Him, each heart aspires.

===========================

Lord, forgive us when we fail You.

Give us strength and help for living.

May we know the Spirit’s power,

As our lives to You we’re giving.
