[076]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – EXPECTATIONS, TESTIMONY AND PLEADING

The three words in the title are what the poem is about. Firstly there is expectation of our heavenly home when we are transported from the physical life. Then there is testimony and that is about the way God looks after us, and what we are doing. Thirdly, there is pleading and it is in two parts. Firstly, there is a plea to move from sin to salvation. Secondly, in the last stanza, where I am coming home (going home to be with the Lord).

The poem deals with many topics, often summarised in the first line of each stanza.

[FIFTH STANZA]. Great things the Lord has done – {{1 Samuel 12:24 “Only fear the LORD and serve Him in truth with all your heart for consider what GREAT THINGS He has done for you.”}} {{Psalm 126:3 “The LORD has done GREAT THINGS for us. We are glad.”}}

[SEVENTH STANZA]. His word is my delight – Nine times in Psalm 119, the word “delight” is used 9 times, all in reference to the word of God. {{Psalm 119:143 “Trouble and anguish have come upon me yet Your commandments are MY DELIGHT.”}} {{Psalm 119:77 “May Your compassion come to me that I may live, for Your law is MY DELIGHT.”}} {{Psalm 119:47 “I SHALL DELIGHT in Your commandments which I love.”}}

[EIGHTH STANZA]. Saved by grace – {{Ephesians 2:8-9 “BY GRACE you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not as a result of works, that no one should boast.”}}

I am only giving verses for three stanzas. See if you can find verses for the remaining ones. I hope these poems bring delight to you.

EXPECTATIONS, TESTIMONY AND PLEADING

Question not the Saviour;

Question not His love.

Rather seek His favour,

Who dwells in realms above.

=======================

Each way to Him is known;

Each footstep He’ll guide.

In Him your love has grown,

As deeper you confide.

=======================

His Shepherd’s love means care

Of sheep in His flock.

The ailing ones He’ll bear

To the sheltering rock.

=======================

Turn to the Lord in need;

Turn towards His face;

Each loving word to heed;

Each pleasant joy embrace.

=======================

Great things the Lord has done;

They do thrill my heart.

The penalty is none,

Once He gave a new start.

=======================

My new home is above

With the Lord always -

A place filled with His love;

Joy in eternal days.

=======================

His word is my delight,

The stay of my soul;

My food and my true light;

The words that keep me whole.

=======================

Do not reject God’s grace.

Do not doubt the Lord.

Move from your sinful place,

And seek the Lord’s reward.

=======================

Begin your walk with us

Along God’s own way.

The journey with Jesus

Will end in brightest day.

=======================

Lord, I am coming home,

Precious Christ, to You.

Nevermore I will roam

Where You’ll make all things new.

=======================

    C. S. Lewis gives a good example of how continuing in sin looks. In his book, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, a character comes across a treasure kept by a dragon.
