[073]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – EXCERPTS FROM CERTAIN PSALMS PART 4 – PSALMS 20, 118, 55

{{Psalm 47:5-7 “God has ascended with a shout, the LORD, with the sound of a trumpet. SING PRAISES TO GOD, SING PRAISES. SING PRAISES TO OUR KING, SING PRAISES, FOR GOD IS THE KING of all the earth. SING PRAISES WITH A SKILLFUL PSALM.”}}

We are currently posting in illustrations, certain Psalms in poem form. They all have special meaning for me especially concerning God’s care and His protection and deliverance. There are three Psalms in this posting. I have taken the thoughts, and often the wording in each Psalm, to compose those in poem form with proper metre and rhyme.

Every Psalm in the series has metre of 8-6-8-6 and can be sung if you like. There are many well-known tunes that fit that metre and here are some here - https://hymnary.org/search?qu=meter%3A8.6.8.6%20in%3Atunes&sort=totalInstances

** Psalm 20. This Psalm of David is a request to send help and deliver from trouble. It is a Psalm of confidence.

** Psalm 118 is a bigger Psalm of 29 verses. It also is a great Psalm of confidence. This sentence is repeated 4 times in the first 4 verses – “His loving-kindness is everlasting.” There are so many delightful verses in this Psalm outlined a bit further down.

** Psalm 55 is truly another delightful Psalm with so many important verses of strength and comfort.

OOOOO - PSALM 20 - OOOOO

Now when the day of trouble’s nigh,

Then may the Lord respond!

And may the name of Jacob’s God,

Be your secure bond!

==========================

And may He send you help above;

From Zion send support!

And may He grant your heart’s desire;

Your purpose, not abort!

==========================

For we will sing salvation’s joy;

Our banners we’ll erect;

For in the name of God they rise;

Your pleas may He effect!

==========================

I know He’ll answer our requests,

Save His anointed Child.

From holy heaven answer him.

His saving strength has smiled.

==========================

Some boast in horses and defence.

In God, our boast will be.

Where they have bowed and fallen down,

We rise and stand rightly.

==========================

OOOOO - PSALM 118 - OOOOO

The Lord is now my strength and song

And my salvation too.

But He had pushed me violently

And measured out my due.

==========================

The sounds of joyful shouting rise

Among the righteous tents.

Embraced in them salvation is;

Our God is joy immense.

==========================

The right hand of the Lord has done

A work that’s valiant.

His right hand is exalted high;

His mercies He will grant.

==========================

Yet God had moved in discipline -

Severe to me its scene.

Yet not to death did He give me,

But gracious He has been.

==========================

I’ll tell the works then of the Lord.

I shall not die but live.

Through gates of righteousness go in;

Thanks to the Lord I’ll give.

==========================

OOOOO - PSALM 55 - OOOOO

The pressure of my wicked foes

Brings trouble so unfair.

The enemy’s foul voice is heard -

Grudges against me bear.

==========================

In anger, yes, they hold this grudge.

Give ear unto my prayer.

Give heed to me to answer me;

My supplications, bear.

==========================

With anguish is my heart indwelt;

Depth’s terrors on me are;

And fear and trembling take their toll,

And horror swamps, to mar.

==========================

O, to have wings, that like a dove,

For rest I’ll fly away,

Or lodge within a wilderness,

From tempests and the fray.

==========================

Confuse, O Lord, divide their tongues,

For violence is too rife.

Oppression and deceit do thrive;

In city streets is strife.

==========================

But it is you, familiar friend,

Who now reproaches me.

Betrayer of sweet fellowship,

Is now my enemy.

==========================

Against his peaceful friends he broke

His trust, with buttered speech.

With oily words of drawn swords,

His warring heart did breech.

==========================

But as for me, I’ll call on God,

And He, the Lord, will save.

My soul He will redeem in peace,

When battle voices rave.

==========================

But God will hear and answer them -

Against me, many strive.

The One who sits enthroned from old

Will keep my soul alive.

==========================

O, cast your burden on the Lord,

And you, He will sustain.

The righteous will forever be

Not shaken, but remain.

==========================

But You, O Lord, will bring them down

Into destruction’s pit.

Deceitful men with bloodied hands –

Their half-lives won’t be lit.
