[019] A MESSAGE FROM A POEM - AN ATHEIST’S LAMENT

I do not know how many nations know what the 1st of April is. In western society it is known as April Fools’ Day and is a time when some play tricks on others. The Day is also known as “All Fools’ Day.”

The following is taken from The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica:-

HOW DID APRIL FOOLS' DAY START?

[[April Fools’ Day in most countries the first day of April. It received its name from the custom of playing practical jokes on this day - for example, telling friends that their shoelaces are untied or sending them on so-called fools’ errands. Although the day has been observed for centuries, its true origins are unknown and effectively unknowable. It resembles festivals such as the “Hilaria” of ancient Rome, held on March 25, and the “Holi” celebration in India, which ends on March 31.

There are variations between countries in the celebration of April Fools’ Day, but all have in common an excuse to make someone play the fool. In France, for example, the fooled person is called “poisson d’avril” (“April fish”), perhaps in reference to a young fish and hence to one that is easily caught.

It is common for French children to pin a paper fish to the backs of unsuspecting friends. In Scotland the day is Gowkie Day, for the gowk, or cuckoo, a symbol of the fool and the cuckold, which suggests that it may have been associated at one time with sexual license; on the following day signs reading “kick me” are pinned to friends’ backs. In many countries newspapers and the other media participate - for example, with false headlines or news stories.]]

Now that aside, the bible does say things about fools, this being the most pertinent – {{Psalm 14:1 THE FOOL HAS SAID IN HIS HEART, “THERE IS NO GOD.” They are corrupt. They have committed abominable deeds. There is no one who does good.”}}

We have that repeated – {{Psalm 53:1-2 The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt and have committed abominable injustice. There is no one who does good. God has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if there is anyone who understands, who seeks after God.”}}

Indeed it is a fool who denies God and that is why atheists are fools. Creation with its complexities and majesties shouts out the proof of a mastermind creation. Atheists say they have no religion but their atheism is their religion. It is a belief system from hell.

There are many references to fools and foolish in Proverbs but I give but one from another of Solomon’s books – {{Ecclesiastes 2:14 “The wise man’s eyes are in his head, but THE FOOL WALKS IN DARKNESS, and yet I know that one fate befalls them both.”}}

Both the fool and the wise man die but the fool goes to the darkness of God’s rejection.

The poem is simple, just making a point.

AN ATHEIST’S LAMENT

Atheists have whinged a lot,

They have no holidays.

Recognition’s what they want,

Of their untruthful ways.

======================

“Christians have their days,” they say,

“The calendar upholds -

Christmas Day and Easter, too;

More holidays, their goals.”

======================

“Jews have their days too, you know,

The ones they celebrate.

Passover and Yom Kippur -

A holiday, each date.”

======================

“Where’s a day that WE can have,

For atheists to keep?

Fairness is not reconciled,

Not even one, small peep.”

If it’s for a date they thirst,

Then give to them April first!
