Archaeologist Discovers The Truth Of Sodom And Gomorrah
Contributed by Dr. Larry Petton on Feb 23, 2024 (message contributor)
In 1996, Archaeologist Steven Collins, made a dig near what was Sodom and Gomorrah according to the Bible. In this dig, Collins and his team unearthed a rare piece of pottery. Archaeologists were initially confused about the pottery found in Sodom because it had glazing, which was not invented until much later, but further examination revealed that the pottery was glazed on only one side and not on the other. One side looked like it was from the Bronze Age of 4000 B.C., near the time of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. But the other side appeared to be from around 1000 A.D. when glazing pottery became a reality.
Collins sent the pottery to an independent lab in the United States to be examined. The lab tests of the pottery found in Sodom discovered that it was heated to over 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit at one time, resulting in a glass layer called trinitite, which is similar to the formation caused by an atomic bomb explosion.
The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was likely caused by a massive heat blast from the sky, similar to a meteor blast or atomic bomb explosion. That is in total agreement with the teaching of Genesis 19. The Bible declares that Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed to ashes by fire that rained down upon them from Heaven. Why did that happen? Because God sees the sin of homosexuality as an abomination in His sight. That abomination is listed in Proverbs 6:16-17 where we see the lineup of things that God hates.
One thing that God hates according to Proverbs 6, is “a heart that devises wicked schemes”. Wicked schemes are those plans of evil men that oppose righteousness and bring about moral depravity. What a clear depiction of what happened at Sodom and Gomorrah.
We are reminded in Romans 1 and I Corinthians 6 of the wickedness of this sin that still grieves the heart of our Creator who made male and female in His image (Genesis 2:22-23). Just as in all sins, we are called to love the sinner and hate the sin, and homosexuality is no different.
Pray for deliverance for those who are bound by this spirit.
Pray for God to show them the unconditional love of Jesus on the Cross and draw them to Himself.
Speak the truth in love to those who are walking in this sin.
