"As I made my way to work amidst the severe cold, a sharp contrast to the warm, southern climes of Mississippi where I spent over a decade, the wind felt like it was slicing through my skin. In these freezing moments, as my pace quickened, almost to a run, my thoughts instinctively turned to the hottest days I had ever experienced. Intriguingly, when I thought about colder places, my body seemed to feel even colder, but recalling the warmth of those scorching summer days helped me endure the current frigid conditions. This mental shift towards warmth became my sanctuary against the overwhelming cold, which otherwise could have deterred me from my daily tasks and responsibilities.

This experience brings to mind Philippians 4:8: 'Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.'

Just as my thoughts of warmth helped me combat the physical cold, this scripture teaches us the power of positive thinking in our spiritual lives. In this world, often cold and shadowed by sin, we, as Christians, can sustain our spiritual vitality by focusing on God's goodness and grace. Negative thoughts, akin to the harsh winter chill, can weaken our spiritual resolve. Therefore, immersing ourselves in God’s Word, full of promises of hope and strength, is crucial. It's this focus on the divine that empowers us to persevere and thrive spiritually, amidst life's challenges."
