The Sun And The Wind
Contributed by Jung Lee on Jan 16, 2024 (message contributor)
One day, the Sun and the Wind argued over who was stronger. They see a man walking with a coat and decide to settle their dispute by seeing who can make him remove his coat. The Wind blows fiercely, but the harder it blows, the tighter the man clutches his coat. Then, the Sun gently shines its warm rays, and as the day grows warmer, the man voluntarily takes off his coat. This story symbolizes the power of gentle persuasion over force.
Proverbs 15:1 says, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."
The fable of the Sun and the Wind, paired with Proverbs 15:1, teaches us the value of gentleness and warmth in influencing others, compared to the ineffectiveness of force or coercion. Just as the Sun's warmth succeeded where the Wind's bluster failed, a gentle demeanor often accomplishes more than aggressive tactics. This lesson applies to our interactions with others, reminding us that kindness can be more persuasive and powerful than force. It encourages us to adopt a compassionate and understanding approach in our dealings, reflecting the Sun's gentleness rather than the Wind's fierceness.
