The Two Brothers

Main Idea: Jesus took our place of punishment.
Verse: “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
Illustration: One time there were two brothers. One brother murdered a man and came home with blood all over his clothes. The police were coming and the older brother loved his younger brother so much that he said, “Take off your clothes.” Then the elder brother gave him his own clothes and put on the bloody clothes. The older brother was arrested by the police and put in prison in place of his brother. In the same way, Jesus took our place of punishment when He shed His blood on the cross.
Note: This story can be turned into an illustrated sermon by using two white shirts, one covered in red paint and the other one clean. Act out the story using two volunteers who exchange their shirts.
