A little boy in Texas wanted to buy a special dog. He went to the pet store to look at all the dogs. He held each one. “How much are your dogs?” asked the boy.

“All those dogs are $10.00,” said the storeowner.

The boy petted each dog again and then cuddled one of the dogs. He held him up to his cheek, loved the dog, and talked to him. The storeowner said, “Have you found your dog?”

“Yes,” said the boy, “I found just the right one.”

The owner said, “You had better buy him quickly, then, because these dogs go fast.”

The boy replied, “Oh, mine will be here for me. Nobody will take him” And the boy left the store.

He worked hard to save money. He mowed lawns, he delivered papers, he ran errands, and finally he had enough to buy his dog. He went back to the store to find his dog. Sure enough, his dog was still there. He picked him up, loved him, and then went to pay for him.

The store owner said, “Son, you don’t want that dog. He’s a crippled skinny little dog. He’ll never run and play with you. He can’t do what the other dogs can. Pick out another dog that’s healthy. You don’t want him.”

The boy replied, “Sir, this is the exact dog I’ve been looking for.” And he handed the owner $10.00.

On his way out of the store with his crippled dog, the owner for the first time saw the boy walking with a limp and then he saw that his leg was being held up by a brace. The boy wanted a dog like himself because he knew the troubles the little dog was going to face.

Christ became one of us, for us.
