The parable of the rich man and Lazarus is a glorious, yet terrifying parable told by Christ. It's shocking to realize the finality of death and our eternal destination in the afterlife. If this life is only for a century in comparison to eternity, how foolish is it to live for the things of this world that are perishing rather than living for the things of eternity that will never pass away? The church today is in vital need to have this message proclaimed to them afresh. The church must be warned against its riches so that the souls within our parishes are not languishing in spiritual poverty, but are sustained by the power of God's Word, Spirit, and strong right hand.
