3. A Fool & His Riches

Disciple needed to learn the lesson that life is more important than material things. They must learn not to be diverted from their commitment to Jesus by greed for wealth & material possessions. True riches & satisfaction come only from God.

4. The Return Of Christ

In the Parable of the Fig Tree Jesus taught that one can tell what is coming by watching the signs. As surely as one can discern the approach of summer by the leafing of a tree, so these signs announce the nearness of the kingdom.

5. The Watchful Servants

Jesus wants us to reflect on what we want to happen when He returns and to prepare our self for it right now. If you want to be prepared for Christ’s return you must prepare yourself through faithfulness.

6. Responsiblity

Because the Christian is unsupervised, irresponsibility is a great possibility. Jesus tells us this parable so we will be encouraged to faithfulness & warned against unfaithfulness.

7. Repentance Demanded

Jesus here teaches us the urgency of repentance. Death is the common denominator for everyone. Only repentance can bring life to people.

In response to the questioning of His authority by the scribes & Pharisees after His cleansing of the Temple, Jesus tells a parable. This parable summaries the whole of biblical history including the gospel story.

9. Good Excuses

At the very heart of the parable is who will be found in the Kingdom of God. It has to do with those who will respond positively to their invitation to accept Jesus, God’s great invitation to salvation.

10. Seeking Sinners

Jesus associated with sinners because their repentance brings great joy to heaven. The parables’ drama is built on the tension of an attempt to find what is lost. If the lost were important to Jesus, they should be important to His disciples.

Jesus tells this memorable story so His followers would know what they were to do between His departure & His second coming. He would go away for a while and His followers would need to be faithful & productive during His absence

Our attitude toward money & how we use it is a barometer of our spiritual state. It reveals whether we are foolishly thinking only of the present or astutely looking to eternity. What is the purpose of money anyway?

The focus is humility in prayer out of a realization that righteousness can not be reached by means of our own efforts. Prayers are heard & answered because of God's mercy not because of our self-justifying merits.

Jesus told the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus to show that being rich should not be equated with being righteous. The rich man had everything he wanted. But he didn't have what would get him to heaven.
