About rob
  • Education: B.A. in Bible and working on a Masters in counseling the school of hard knocks: small business owner, secular work for a while--teaches you a lot about the people you minister to.
  • Experience: served as youth, campus, family and pulpit minister capacities in various sizes of congregations in different states
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: As with others, I would like to think that these are mine. I have been influenced by many and have relied heavily at times on those who have more expertise than I in certain areas. I will specify those. Otherwise, I try hard to be truthful to Scripture and God’s will, and to address the needs of the common man in the pew in such a way that they understand and take it with them.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Every one that I have preached has affected me first, and at times have been later rebuked by my own message.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: a small (4-5yr. old) boy was in his room when a ferocious storm arose with thunder crashing and lightening flashing. He cried out to his dad who came running into the room to comfort his son. The dad said: "son, it’s ok, God is watching over you." "I know," the son replied, "but I wanted someone with skin on."
  • Family: married with two older kids. We are now empty nesters and enjoying our time together in ministry (but we do miss our kids.)
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: 1. preach as dying man to dying men. 2. preach as if I had something to say rather than just having to say something
  • Books that have had an impact: several lately for a class: Renovation of the heart by Dallas Willard; Conformed to his image by Kenneth Boa; Boundaries by Cloud and Townsend
  • Hobbies: outdoor activities: trailrunning, jogging, mtn. biking, hiking indoor activities: sitting by a fireplace or on a front porch in a rocking chair with a good book
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: several years ago I experienced a mouse invasion while I was preaching. 5 mice broke in our auditorium, one met his fate by an older teen who tried to spare the girls on his pew some fear. (he stomped it). it was quite the morning. Needless to say all focus on my thoughts was gone.
  • What I want on my tombstone: faithful to the end
