About Paul
  • Education: High School -- St. John Bosco, Bellflower, Ca. Some college
  • Experience: AT&T 18 years before becoming a Pastor. Chuck Smith has been my Pastor since High School.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Jesus said; ...Freely you have received, freely give. Matthew 10:8
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: I love the cover to cover experience, the whole bible book by book, chapter by chapter verse by verse. Like mom’s cooking when I was growing up, I really can’t remember a specific meal, I loved it all.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: My favorite illustrations are those directly from the bible. The Old Testament is more and more becoming my picture book of illustrations.
  • Family: 5 children, 1 still at home, and 4 grandchildren.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: Dad is now with the Lord, but as an Elder in our church he was a great encouragement to me. My mom is there every sunday and gives me a kiss on the cheek when my preaching is best. She kissed me last Sunday.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She actually asks for my notes, and when she teaches she wants me to review her study. Surprising since she is smarter than I am.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Simply teach the word of God simply. And The teachers check list, is your teaching? 1. Accurate to the text. 2. Clear and east to understand. 3. Practical to yourself & to your listeners. 4. Magnifying of the name of Jesus. And 5. Did you pray, pray, pray.
  • Books that have had an impact: Grace Changes Everything & Living Water by Chuck Smith, The ’Be’ series by Warren Weirsby , authors like Ray Stedman, Philip Yancy, Greg Laurie, John MacArthur, John Courson, Kay Arthur, Spurgeon, Oswald Chambers and on and on.
  • Hobbies: Camping with the family.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: What God has done for me He will do for you.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: A huge crack of thunder when I was preaching on the Wrath of God.
  • What I want on my tombstone: He was a sign post to Jesus.

Dying to self that we might live for Christ

The Book Of Romans. Sunday, September 7, 2008. Romans 6:1 - 14. Dying To Live. I considered another title to this teaching which was -- Putting Sin 6 Feet Under, and that idea will also play a major roll in our study today. But, a full 15 times in the first 14 verses of this chapter the ...read more
