About Maurice
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: All too often, sermons are preached with just a hint of obedience. But, after 45 years of ministry, I'm convinced that OBEDIENCE must be the focus of every Sunday school lesson, every youth program, every Bible study, every new believer's class, and essentially every sermon. If we are to follow Jesus in His relationship with the Father, we've got to learn obedience. Jesus humbled himself and became obedient... We must do likewise; nothing less, nothing more. "No branch can bear fruit of itself." (John 15:4)
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Obedience.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: Whenever Mom had enough of my unruly behavior, she would say, "Wait till your father gets home." When Dad got home, it was Judgement Day. Mom loved me and was extremely patient and long-suffering, but...
  • Family: My wife of 10 years, lots of kids, and grandchildren.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: Mom is ever so grateful that most of her sons are preachers. Eight boys and six are preachers.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She said, My Sermons are filled with practical examples applicable to today's Christian experiences.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: "Obedience is the only proof of your faith in God." (Dr. Mike Murdock).
  • Books that have had an impact: A Life of Obedience by Andrew Murray. Humility by Andrew Murray. Shepherds look at Psalm 23 by Phillip Keller The book of Philippian's chapter 2 verses 5 -11
  • Hobbies: Writing and life coach
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Learn to be obedient.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: I finished the last 2 minutes of my sermon, to a Spanish-speaking congregation without the help of my interpreter.
  • What I want on my tombstone: "He Humbled himself and Became Obedient."

God is not a man; He cannot lie, therefore, whenever he speaks, obedience is the only expected response.

For centuries, the “Church” has taught “Repentance” as the focus of the Christian experience. Daily confession of all sins. But, from the beginning with Adam and Eve, God has always been much more concerned about our obedience--to His Word. “God is not a man, that he should lie…” (Numbers 23:19 ...read more

  • "go And Sin No More"

Is it possible to "Go and sin no more.? His example is that we "Follow In His Steps. That the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh."

“Go and Sin No More” What did Jesus mean when He said, “Go and sin no more”? (John 5:14, 8:11). I'm persuaded, “He said what He meant, and He meant exactly what He said.” However, many would have us believe that this is not possible; but why would Jesus give instructions to do something they ...read more

  • Quickened...

    Contributed on Aug 27, 2023

By one man's disobedience, many were made sinners.

And you hath He quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins. Wherein in times past ye walked according to the course of this World, according to the prince and power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience. (Ephesians 2:1-2) The course of this world is dictated ...read more

  • What Is Wisdom?

    Contributed on Aug 19, 2023

"Wisdom usually comes with age, but age often shows up--alone."

Wisdom is not about a high IQ, and growing older is no guarantee you'll be wiser. Oscar Wilde, the Irish poet, wrote, "Wisdom usually comes with age, but age often shows up alone." While researchers in psychology and philosophy have for several years been debating the empirical and ...read more

"hath he said it and shall he not do it..."

God Is not a man; He cannot lie; therefore, whenever He speaks, obedience is the only expected response. God has no limits or boundaries, and He can do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we can ask or think. “…Hath, he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken and shall he not make ...read more
