About Jake
  • Education: I attended Gordon College and got a BA of Arts with a major in Youth Ministry and a minor in Biblical and Theological Studies.
  • Experience: I served as the Youth Pastor at First Congregational Church in Essex, MA for six years. I am now the Youth Pastor at Grace Community Church in New Canaan, CT
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: May God speak through these into your hearts! The words came from Him to begin with and He will hopefully continue to use them.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: The biggest difference in myself was when I preached from Ezekiel 37 and talked about complacency and coming alive. I was really touched by that passage and convicted. For others, probably my sermon on worship from Romans 12 about why we come to worship on a Sunday morning.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: Stories from my own life and childhood.
  • Family: I was married in August of 2005 to my wife Melissa. She is an artist whose work can be seen on www.starveartist.com.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: They like them and are proud of me.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She is extra critical because she cares so much. Over all though she likes them.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Write a manuscript!!!
  • Books that have had an impact: Anything written by Rob Bell! Anything written by Mike Yaconelli. Emerging Church and Emerging Worship by Dan Kimball. The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. Be Intolerant by Ryan Dobson. Red Moon Rising by Pete Greig. Biblical Preaching by Haddin Robinson. Don’t Waste Your Life by John Piper. How to Read the Bible For All It’s Worth by Gordon Fee and Doug Stuart.
  • Hobbies: I like playing sports, especially baseball and football. Playing video games is my main chill time. I also love playing and listening to music, reading, hiking, and cooking (yes cooking).
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Quit slacking and sitting in complacency and live out your faith!!!
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: A while ago when I was preaching my sermon entitled "Jumping in the Midst of Storms" I jumbled my words and said something along these lines: "Suicide is at an ultimate hoe among little people." I meant to say, "Suicide is at an all time high among young people." My group got a great laugh at that.
  • What I want on my tombstone: Jake Kircher was going to be buried here but Jesus came back...

What if you got to spend an entire night with Jesus? How would you respond the next day?

Tonight, we are going to do something a little different than normal. Instead of the whole teaching time being interactive, as we have done in the past, this week I am going to share some thoughts, then you are going to take some time to think and process – kind of like we did a few weeks back when ...read more

Solomon writes that "everything under the sun is meaningless." Why and what does that mean for our lives?

Today, I want to ask ourselves the tough question of, how much do we actually pursue the love of God? To help us think about this issue, I want to start off with an activity that someone suggested to me this week. I’d like everyone to take a blank piece of paper which represents your life and take ...read more

  • What Is The Holy Spirit

    Contributed on Nov 25, 2009

So we have all heard of the Holy Spirit but what is it...or he?

Tonight we’re going to talk about the Holy Spirit. As we talked about last week, when it comes to rest and finding Sabbath in our lives, part of that process is about hanging out with God – being with Him, learning to listen to Him and follow Him. When it comes to this process and how the Holy ...read more

Life get’s busy pretty fast but yet God calls us to this thing called Sabbath. What is it and how does it work in our fast paced society?

As I was looking through the suggestion cards last week, there was one that stuck out to me that I thought would be a good place to start the year with. The question was, “How do you find time for friends, family, school and religion in everyday life?” We all have so much in our lives that we are ...read more

  • Introduction - God's Heart For You

    Contributed on Sep 16, 2009

Understanding God’s heart for the world has begin by understanding what God thinks about each of us and how he asks us to live.

I am really excited this year about our theme which is “God’s Heart for the World.” Most everyone knows John 3:16 in that it says, “For God loved the…world…so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that…everyone…who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” As much as so many ...read more
