About David
  • Education: I have an Honorable Discharge from the Army National Guard. I have not quite two years of Seminary achieved at Mid America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis Tn.
  • Experience: I spent my first two years in ministry as a House Parent for the Tennessee Baptist Youth Home in Memphis. I then spent three years at Parkway Baptist Church in Hernando, Mississippi. I have been at Calvary Baptist Church for four years now with a total of 7 years in student ministry.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: I enjoy placing the cookies on the bottom shelf, I hope you can enjoy eating them with me.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Herb Hodges on Desciple Making.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: Sacrifice of A father who’s son went to work with him. The dad manned a drawbridge. The son got caught in the gears of the bridge. A cruise boat filled with passengers who are living it up approached the bridge. Dad a choice, leave bridge down and spare his son, or raise bridge up to save 100’s of passengers lives. He sacrificed his son to save the passengers who didn’t even know what had taken place. God gave his son for us who are passengers living up the life. May we all acknowledge His sacrifice.
  • Family: I have been married for over 10 years to my wife Kelley. We have four children, three girls and one boy.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My father passed away in 1993 and I have never really heard any comments from my mother who is unchurched.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: I love my wife and she is my best critic. She tells me when its good and when its needing work.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: "Preach Jesus" has never left my mind. As easy as that sounds it has been the focal point. And, Mathew 10:20
  • Books that have had an impact: Real Worship by Wiersbe, and any book by John Piper and or John MacArthur.
  • Hobbies: I like working out. Playing xbox with students, and spending crazy times with my kids.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: God Loves Us! He is Holy and He is the author of Love. He wants the best for us and He has made a place for us. God Loves you even if your dirt is deep. He loves you and has a way for you to be with Him. In His arms, you escape the hurt of this world and the hurt of death.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: When I finished preaching my middle daughter brooke, age 5 at the time, shouted out, "do it again daddy, do it again".
  • What I want on my tombstone: Here lies a gift well spent! And Mark 12:30-31
