About David
  • Education: Truett Seminary. M.Div in May 2008 (Lord willing)
  • Experience: Secular for 7 years during which taught SS, pastoral intern, served on church board, and was PT youth minister. Now in fourth year as a preaching pastor.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: I hope it helps.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Three sermons on three main characters of Ruth, the "sandiches" in Mark, Lamentations 3, Elijah on Mt. Horeb. Ethiopian Eunich.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: When I was young my father discouraged me about singing but after a semester of all "A"s in college, he sent me a handwritten note telling me he was proud. At 32, I never sing and I’m still in school. The words we say matter; they change lives.
  • Family: Wife called to ministry and praised by preaching professors as a gifted preacher. She currently serves as youth minister and preaches every Wednesday to them. Sons 7 and 6 are brilliant, handsome, and godly.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: Preaching is what I was made to do. And hopefully I’ll get better.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She wishes she wasn’t a trained preacher so she wouldn’t analyze them so much.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Pray.
  • Books that have had an impact: The Preaching Life by Taylor Preaching by Craddock Finally Comes the Poet by Brueggemann The Art of Pastoring by Hansen Preaching with Spiritual Passion by The Moral Vision of the New Testament by Hays Calling and Character by Willimon
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Though he slay me, yet will I trust him. Job 13:15
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: Watched a chicken walk through my field of vision--just beyond the glass doors of the church.
  • What I want on my tombstone: He loved the LORD his God with all his heart, soul, mind, and strength.
