About Darren
  • Education: BTh, Dip Theol and MA Theol.
  • Experience: I have twenty years experience as an unbeliever. Six years as a manager. Four years plus of theological college. 25 years of full-time ministry experience.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: I’m a beggar like everyone else, just sharing with others where I found some bread.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: Like a piece of wood in a pond, a Christian can "float" on the surface of sin and not get to wet. But just like wood that is in the water too long gets waterlogged and sinks to the bottom, the same will also happen to the Christian that spends to much time in sin.
  • Family: Blessed with a gorgeous wife and seven kids.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: Her Dad’s also a preacher... I did ask her once, how many truly great preachers she thought there was in Australia, she replied, "I’m not sure, but I suspect one less than you’re thinking."
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Make it your calling.
  • Books that have had an impact: Lloyd Jones - Preaching & Preachers. RC Sproul - Chosen by God. Keller - Centre Church
  • Hobbies: 1960's Land Rovers, bobbers, Aussie bulldogs and, Newcastle United, Collingwood are all great interests, but the gospel is my passion.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: A lady who was visiting Church started to become increasingly agitated, finally jumped to her feet & shouted, "shut up, shut up, for goodness sake, just shut up, you just go on and on..." We found out later that she was mentally disturbed. Still it was little comfort for me as a young preacher delivering only my second sermon. Not to mention I’d only been preaching 5 mins.

The certainty and historcity of the gospel.

You know how you have the moments… Maybe a phone call… or a conversation… Where there’s a lot of small talk going on… But you’re waiting for the reason for the call or conversation… Like maybe one of your kids rings you… And there’s a lot of small talk… And the whole time you’re thinking… What’s ...read more
