About Christopher
  • Education: I am currently a 2nd-year student at Houghton College, a Wesleyan college approx. an hour away from the church. My major is Interpersonal Communications, and my focus with that major is to apply it to my ministry so that I may be able to better communicate with my flock.
  • Experience: I have been preaching periodically at my home church (Avoca UMC) since January 2002, and spoke several times and many different camps this summer on a ministry tour with a team college.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: I hope you enjoy these...I’ll try to get them up as I can find the time...some are not fully typed out, just notes, sorry about that. All I can say is that these greatly encouraged me as I read them, and I hope that God make speak to you as you also read.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: The story about the one-armed boy who wanted to do judo. When I get time, I’ll put it up here.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My parents are very encouraging, although my father isn’t a Christian. They are fully supportive in this ministry, and for that I am eternally grateful to God.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: haha...funny question...if I had a spouse, or even a girlfriend, I could answer that question. :)
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: "Don’t try to please everybody, Chris...and at your age don’t get involved with the politics either."
  • Hobbies: I enjoy fishing, particularly for pickerel. I love taking nature walks, watching baseball, and playing soccer.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: "God loves you."
  • What I want on my tombstone: hmm...too early to think about that! :)

If can help someone solve a problem, then solve it!

I want to begin with the parable that I just read: The story of the Good Samaritan. I just want to point out some historical elements. This parable is only included in the book of Luke. Luke was a Gentile in the Jewish religion. See, Christians were not viewed as separate from the Jews until ...read more
