Title: Your Confirmation Call
Theme: Confirmation, A Key to Finding God's Will
Series: Three Foundational Truths to Grasping Gods Will
Introduction: Healthy spiritual life must exist if the child of God is going to understand God's will for him. When a baby is born it is vital the child breaths, walks, learns to communicate, and matures in all area of life that effects his well being. Anyone wanting to grow spiritually must first be born again, learn to walk in step with the Holy Spirit, learn to spiritually communicate with God and must mature in spiritual truths which affect his or hers calling.
The Bible says, "His Divine power has given us everything we need for life and Godliness through our knowledge of Him who calls us by His own glory and goodness. Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." (2 Peter 1:3-11)
Proposition: I would propose to you Biblical confirmation is a key to unlocking your understanding of God perfect will for you. It requires a great deal of diligence and labor to make sure our God callings and election is clear. If the child of God wants the peace of knowing that he is walking in the center of the Lord's will for him. He must examine himself. Do a very narrow search to see if he is truly a child of God, having his mind enlightened, and his will renewed.
The Bible says, "Search me, God and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive ways in me and lead me in the everlasting." (Psalm) "The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children..." (Romans 8:16) "[a man's] work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames." (1 Corinthians 3:12-15)
Interrogative Sentence: Considering those Biblical truths, we Christians should be awakened to ask. Just how do I Biblically find confirmation on what I believe is God's will for me?
Transitional Sentence: The first confirmation a person needs if he wants to be in the center of God's will is to ask: Does the Holy Spirit of Christ really reside in me? The Apostle Paul in his first letter to the church in Corinth ask this question, "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and the God's Spirit lives in you." (1 Corinthians 3:16) "...if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you." (Romans 8:11) The writer of the book of Romans writes, "you... are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you." (Romans 8:9)
We have just heard one the clearest passages of Scripture that tells us that Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ lives in and can empower a man to live according to God's perfect will for him. However, it must be understood, just because the Holy Spirit indwells a person, each person must realize that his mind is often attacked by the influence of the devil and the lures of this world. That is why Paul writes to the Corinthians and says, "We demolish arguments and every pretention that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:5) Notice, Paul said, obedient to Christ.
There is a decisively indicative test, called the litmus test. Merriam-Webster has this definition, "a test in which a single factor (as an attitude, event, or fact) is decisive." Another definition of litmus test is "something (such as an opinion about a political or moral issue) that is used to make a judgment about weather someone or something is acceptable." (Leaner's Dictionary)
