SUBJECT: YOU DON’T LOVE ME LIKE YOU USE TO
SCRIPTURE: HEBREWS 10: 32-39
In life we may go through periods of time where we loose interest in certain things. Many times marriages are broken up simply because we lose interest in another. Men fall out of love with their wives, and wives fall out of love with their husbands. You remember how it used to be; when he used to bring you gifts, and bring you flowers, and tell you that he loves you, but now he acts as if you don’t even exist. You see many couples can’t live past the honeymoon, but I stopped by to tell you, when the honeymoon is over you still have to love that person. If you were to ask or take a survey of those people who have or will be getting a divorce, and you ask them why they are getting a divorce they would tell you that I just fell out of love. In a sense the church is in the final stages of a divorce with God, because we don’t love him like we used to. The church of the old days used to love God, they showed up to bless God with their praise. They didn’t have much money, but they loved God with their whole heart. And because they loved him, wherever they went they let somebody know about the power of God, but now days we don’t love him like we used to. Because you know how it is when you don’t love somebody like you used to, you want take them anywhere, and you don’t tell people you even know them. That’s how we do God. We don’t love him like we used to, so we don’t take him with us. We’ll leave him on the dresser when we go to work, we’ll leave him in the car when we go to the doctor’s office, and some of us will leave him at outside when we go to church. We don’t tell people about him, but eventhough we don’t love him like we used to God still loves us and keeps us in the palm of his hands.
The Bibles says in verse 32, “but call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions.” You need to remember when you first got saved, when you first overcame and endured the hard times, you were on fire for the Lord. You would shout and didn’t worry about what people said about you; you don’t love him like you used to. You come to church and you frown up at everybody, but you need to bring back that old praise, I heard my grandmother say; give me that old-time religion it’s good enough for me. Then I would hear my granddaddy say it was good enough for my father and it’s good enough for me. Remember the old times when you used to love God no matter what happened, but you don’t love him like you used to.
If you keep on reading, down in verse 34 it says “For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and enduring substance.” Remember when you used to give me all that you had remember when you used to share the last you had with your neighbor, because you knew that God in heaven would supply your every need. But now that you don’t love me like you used to, you wont share, you used to give with a smile on your face, but now you give mad and upset. All because you don’t love me like you used to. But I stopped by to tell you that your love has changed; you don’t love me like you used to.
And if you keep on reading verse 35 says, “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward.” He was telling you to keep the faith that you used to have. Don’t loose confidence in me, because I’m the same God that you used to love. Keep on believing in me, because I’m able. You used to have so much faith so much confidence in me, but now that you don’t love me like you used to your confidence is gone, you better get your confidence back, because I’m still able.
But if you keep on reading down in the 36th verse the Bible says in so many words you’d better wait on the Lord. But watch this, he says that he’ll bless you if you wait, but many people would have stopped reading by now, but God says only when you do what you are supposed do, will I bless you. And I stopped by to tell you if you love God, you will wait on him, and if you love God you will do what you have to do in order to get what God has for you.
