Yahweh Is A Jealous God.

Summary: Man's purpose is to serve God. After the fall of man, he became estranged from God, and Satan penetrated man's thoughts and mind....weaken his resistance to sin.The Creator of heaven and earth is a VERY jealous God, who does NOT tolerate idolatry.
Exodus 20:2 "I AM the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery." שמות 20: 2 "אני ה 'אלוקיך אשר הוצאתיך מארץ מצרים, מבית העבדים".
Exodus 20:3 "You shall have NO other gods BEFORE me." שמות 20: 3 "לא יהיו לך אלהים אחרים על פני".
Man was created to worship and to serve God. However, his spiritual relationship with his Creator was corrupted by Satan, when he cheated Adam and Eve out of their immortality, innocence and spiritual purity. As from THAT moment a sinful nature was infused into man's spirit. THIS condition benefited Satan MORE than God, because NOW he had ACCESS to man's mind, emotions, thoughts and will. In fact, AFTER man disobeyed God, he lost his will to resist Satan's destructive and opposing sinful influence.
The devil derailed man's primary objective to worship and obey GOD alone, to SUCH an extent that man joined Satan in his revolt against God's will. From THAT moment on we were separated from God's presence and love. Chaos and despair replaced harmony and peace with God and our environment....the light of God's spirit in man was replaced by darkness and sinful captivity. We developed a GREATER need for wrong than right, for injustice than justice.
Because man started worshipping idols, and turned away from God, sin escalated to chaotic levels. Our Creator were pushed aside, disobeyed and disrespected. THIS grieved God SO much that he regretted creating man. He became vengeful towards His OWN people and allowed them to be taken captive as slaves by the Egyptians. In Genesis 15:13 God told Abram that his descendants would be slaves in a foreign land for 400 years. Exodus 12:41 says that the Israelites were in Egypt for 430 years.
However, God NEVER gave up on His children since the fall of man. After 4 centuries as slaves in Egypt, He called Moses, an Israeli, who was raised in the palace of Pharaoh as an Egyptian prince, to lead His people from bondage. We must remember that THESE descendants of Jacob (Israel) were HEAVILY influenced by the idolatry worship of their slave masters. THIS in turn estranged them from God. MOST of them were idol worshippers, and were the descendants of the sons of Jacob. The God of their fathers were a stranger to them. THEY did not HAVE a relationship with Him. After MANY hardships in the desert, many of them wanted to turn BACK to Egypt, to be Pharaoh's slaves again.
THESE descendants of covenant people grieved God in MANY ways. Their sin separated them from their Creator ("But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear" - Isaiah 59:2), so that God remained a stranger to them.
Nevertheless, Moses continued to lead them further into the desert on their way to Mount Sinai. It was on Mount Sinai that God engraved his TEN LAWS on stone tablets, which is known to us as today's generation as the TEN COMMANDMENTS, and handed them to Moses. In these laws He expressed His rejection of their idolatry. He made it VERY clear that He would CURSE them unto their fourth generation if they did NOT stop their idolatry...worshipping of idols.
Satan's betrayal of God in the beginning of time had SUCH a DEVASTATING and PERMANENT impact on man's primary objective, that we are STILL betraying our God......STILL revolting AGAINST our God.... STILL worshipping idols....idols of atheism, evolution, communism, capitalism, lies, stealing, jealousy, cheating, pride, hatred, envy, false pretense, prostitution, immorality, lust, adultery, greed, homosexuality, same sex marriages, aggression, violence, love of money and material status "........thou shalt not bow down unto them, nor serve them; for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me (Exodus 20:5)......"
