Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
This sermon encourages cultivating a heart of gratitude towards God's grace, goodness, and glory, and responding to His love with joyful praise and thanksgiving.
Welcome, dear brothers and sisters, to this sacred gathering. It is a joy to see you all, a joy to gather with you in the house of the Lord. We are here, not because of any merit of our own, but because of the unending grace of our God. We are here because His love has drawn us near, His mercy has made a way, and His goodness guides us in every step we take.
In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, we often forget to pause and truly give thanks for the grace we have received. We forget to appreciate the glory of God that is all around us. We forget to acknowledge the goodness of God that is ever present in our lives. But today, we are here to remember, to appreciate, and to acknowledge. Today, we are here to cultivate a heart of gratitude.
Our focus today is on Psalm 100, a psalm of thanksgiving, a song of gratitude.
God's grace is like the rain that falls on the parched ground, bringing life to the dry and weary land. It's like the sun that shines on the cold and dark earth, bringing warmth and light. It's like the wind that blows on the still and stagnant air, bringing movement and freshness. And it's this grace that waters, warms, and stirs up gratitude within us.
Gratitude isn't something that we can muster up on our own. It's not something that we can manufacture or manipulate. It's not something that we can produce or procure. It's something that grows. And it grows in the soil of God's grace.
When we realize how much we've been given, when we recognize how much we've been forgiven, when we remember how much we've been loved, gratitude grows. When we see the beauty of God's creation, when we experience the depth of God's compassion, when we encounter the breadth of God's care, gratitude grows. And it grows in the light of God's grace.
