Acts 19:13-16 Inter-Personal Relationship with Saviour

For the first time, we see that some people misusing the name of Jesus and had their consequences of it. Sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, had an idea to become familiar like Paul in casting out demons. They wanted to show themselves as great leaders of that generation. Jesus had promised that those who believe in me and my name could do mighty things than me. Sons of Sceva used the name of Jesus with indirect reference. But that could not work out. Evil spirits overpowered the sons of Sceva. They were hurt and ran away from the scene. The power in the name of Jesus is the inheritance of the disciples who enjoy the relationship with Christ. The name of Jesus is not a commodity or a mantra to use for personal gains.

Acts 19:17-20 Revival at Ephesus

The above incident brought notable honour to the name of Jesus. There was a high regard for the message of Jesus Christ among the Jews and Greeks in Ephesus. A revival took place in that City. Many believed in Christ and openly confessed their evil deeds. An open confession of a person leads him to come out of the sins and helps him not indulging in the same act again. As long as one hides his sin, wickedness, evil deeds, he could never come out of it. But confessing the mistakes, sins help to overcome them with the help of the Holy Spirit. Sorcerers in that City threw their books into the fire and repented from their evil deeds. The tricks of people come to an end. No person can succeed always using unlawful means. Truth always redeems people from ignorance and sinful acts. Jesus comes to people with more power and gentleness.

Acts 19:21-22 Paul’s desire to reach Rome

Paul desired to reach Rome because that was the promise of Jesus to him. He would stand before the kings and rulers to witness the Gospel. Paul never deviated from his primary calling and purposes. He upheld his call and desired to fulfil it for the glory of God. He has done great things for the gospel preaching. However, Paul would like to go through Jerusalem through Macedonia and Achaia. Paul delegated few responsibilities to his helpers or associates, namely Timothy and Erastus. Paul stayed a long period in Asia Minor. He has spent his time preaching and debating with the people about God and his existence. Paul could not keep silent wherever has gone. He had preached the Gospel and disturbed the people with his faith and morality.
