This sermon explores seeking Jesus, gaining spiritual wisdom, and finding sustenance in God's Word, using the journey of the Magi in Matthew 2 as a guide. Key
Good morning, dear friends. It's a joy to be together in this sacred space, a place where hearts meet, where souls find solace, and where the Word of God nourishes our spirits.
Today, we turn our hearts and minds to the second chapter of Matthew's Gospel. This passage is a rich tapestry woven with threads of faith, wisdom, and divine guidance. It is a story that begins with the search for a Savior, moves through the quest for spiritual wisdom, and culminates in the sustenance found within the sacred scriptures.
Let us hear the Word of God from Matthew 2 [read text].
As we ponder this passage, let us remember the wise words of Charles Spurgeon, who once said, "Visit many good books, but live in the Bible." Today, we are living in the Bible, soaking in the wisdom of the Magi, and reflecting on our own search for the Savior.
Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Word, a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. As we open our hearts to Your message today, fill us with Your wisdom and guide us in Your truth. May we, like the Magi, seek the Savior, search for spiritual wisdom, and find sustenance in Your Word. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
So, let's turn our hearts and minds to the first main point of today's sermon: Seeking the Savior.
In the narrative of Matthew, we find the Magi, figures of wisdom and knowledge, setting out on a quest. Their goal? To find the newborn King of the Jews. They had seen His star and were drawn to it, compelled to find the source of this celestial sign. This is a picture of our own spiritual quest. We too are drawn to the light of Christ, compelled to seek Him out. But how do we go about this? How do we seek the Savior in our own lives?
The first thing we must do is recognize our need for a Savior. The Magi were not Jewish. They were not part of the chosen people of God. Yet, they recognized the significance of the star and the birth it announced. They knew that this was not just any king, but a King worth traveling great distances to worship. In our own lives, we must come to a similar realization. We must recognize our need for a Savior, our need for Jesus. We must understand that we are sinners in need of salvation, that we are lost without Him. This recognition is the first step in seeking the Savior.
Next, we must be willing to act on this recognition. The Magi did not simply acknowledge the star and then go about their business. No, they packed up their belongings and set out on a journey. They took action. In the same way, recognizing our need for a Savior is not enough. We must be willing to act on this recognition and turn from our sins to Jesus. We must be willing to follow Him, to submit to His lordship. This action is the second step in seeking the Savior. But it's not enough to simply recognize our need and take action.
We must also be persistent in our search. The journey of the Magi was not an easy one. They traveled a great distance, faced many obstacles, and even had to deal with the deceit of King Herod. Yet, they did not give up. They were persistent in their search for the Savior. In our own lives, we must be just as persistent. We will face obstacles. We will face opposition. We may even face deceit and betrayal. But we must not give up. We must be persistent in our search for Jesus. This persistence is the third step in seeking the Savior.
Finally, we must be prepared to worship. When the Magi finally found Jesus, they did not simply acknowledge Him and then leave. They bowed down and worshiped Him. They presented Him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. In the same way, when we find Jesus, we must be prepared to worship Him. We must be prepared to give Him our all, to present Him with our lives as a living sacrifice. This worship is the final step in seeking the Savior.
Transition. Seeking the Savior is an active pursuit. We must recognize our need for a Savior, take action, be persistent, and be prepared to worship. This is how we seek the Savior. This is how we find Jesus.
As we continue to immerse ourselves in the narrative of the Magi, we are drawn to their pursuit of spiritual wisdom ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
