WHY WE SHOULD SEEK GOD EARLY

INTRODUCTION:

The call to seek God early is one of urgency, wisdom, and intimacy. God invites us not only to seek Him but to do so earnestly and promptly. In the Scriptures, seeking God early speaks both of time and priority—it means rising early in the day to meet with God, and it also symbolises seeking Him early in life, before complications, distractions, or the weariness of the world sets in. Seeking God early reveals the heart’s hunger and positions us to receive His presence, power, and peace.

Many believers postpone their pursuit of God for “a more convenient time,” but the truth is, there is no better time than now. Those who seek Him early find Him, and those who delay often miss the freshness of His presence and the clarity of His voice. Spiritual sensitivity is sharpened when the first fruits of our time, strength, and affection are given to God.

In our generation of busyness and digital distractions, the discipline of seeking God early is more vital than ever. It is in those early, undisturbed moments that we align with heaven’s rhythm, receive instructions for the day, and set the tone for victorious living. Let us now explore why it is essential to seek God early.

1. SEEKING GOD EARLY REVEALS PRIORITY

a) God deserves our first and best (Matthew 6:33)

Seeking Him first honours His place as Lord and King in our lives.

b) Early seeking reflects intentional devotion (Psalm 5:3)

David sought God in the morning, showing how intentional devotion fuels intimacy.

c) Putting God first aligns our day with His purpose (Proverbs 3:6)

Early communion allows God to direct our paths before other voices interfere.

d) We show reverence by giving God our undivided attention (Psalm 46:10)

Stillness in the early hours helps us hear God without noise or haste.

e) Biblical Example: Jesus rose up early to pray, showing that early seeking is vital even for those with heavy responsibilities (Mark 1:35).

2. SEEKING GOD EARLY GUARANTEES SPIRITUAL SENSITIVITY

a) Early seekers enjoy fresh spiritual downloads (Lamentations 3:22-23)

God’s mercies are new every morning, and those who seek Him early tap into that freshness.

b) Our hearts are more alert and receptive early (Psalm 119:147)

In the quiet of the morning, distractions are minimal, and our spirit is more attuned to God.

c) The early hours are sacred moments for divine instruction (Isaiah 50:4)

God gives the tongue of the learned to those He awakens morning by morning.

d) Starting the day with God increases daily spiritual awareness (Galatians 5:25)

When we begin our day with God, we are more sensitive to walk in step with the Spirit.

e) Biblical Example: Samuel heard God’s voice early in life and early in the day because he was positioned in God’s presence (1 Samuel 3:1-10).

3. SEEKING GOD EARLY STRENGTHENS OUR WALK WITH HIM

a) Early pursuit builds spiritual discipline (1 Corinthians 9:27)

Training the body and spirit to rise early for God leads to consistency and maturity.

b) It deepens our relationship with God (James 4:8)

The more time we spend with Him, the more we know Him and grow in closeness.

c) It sets a firm spiritual foundation for the day (Psalm 143:8)

Hearing God’s lovingkindness in the morning gives strength to walk righteously.

d) It increases hunger and thirst for God (Psalm 63:1)

Early seeking often sparks deeper longing for God throughout the day.

e) Biblical Example: Daniel prayed three times a day faithfully, and it established a powerful walk with God in a hostile environment (Daniel 6:10).

4. SEEKING GOD EARLY BRINGS DIVINE REWARD

a) God promises to reward early seekers (Proverbs 8:17)

Those who seek Him early shall find Him—not just His gifts, but His very presence.

b) There is a blessing attached to diligence in pursuit (Hebrews 11:6)

God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him, and early seekers are diligent ones.

c) Early seekers receive strength, wisdom, and peace (Isaiah 40:31)

Time in God’s presence in the morning renews strength for the day’s battles.

d) When we honour God early, He honours us openly (1 Samuel 2:30)

Prioritising God brings divine favour and uncommon breakthroughs.

e) Biblical Example: Abraham rose early to obey God, and his faith was rewarded with covenant blessings (Genesis 22:3,17-18).

CONCLUSION:

Seeking God early is not merely a religious act; it is a sacred lifestyle of devotion, discipline, and divine encounter. It transforms the heart, sharpens our spiritual vision, and prepares us to walk in God’s perfect will. It is a conscious choice to say, “Lord, You are my first thought, my highest desire, and my utmost priority.”
