Summary: King Saul lost his way, dont lose our way.
“Why Saul Was Rejected and David Was Chosen” 1 Samuel 13–16
1. King Saul lost His way
• Saul looked like a King but He didn’t act like one
• Saul appeared strong appeared the right man for the job
• Tall, impressive, outwardly qualified, Israel wanted a king “like the nations”
2. Saul’s fatal mistake
• Disobedience to God Saul’s first major failure occurred when he offered a burnt offering at Gilgal without waiting for the prophet Samuel, violating God’s command that only priests could perform sacrifices (1 Samuel 13:9-14).
• Jealousy After David gained favor with God and the people, Saul’s jealousy and paranoia intensified. He repeatedly attempted to kill David,
• Spiritual Weakness Following God’s rejection, Saul experienced spiritual distress. The Spirit of the Lord departed from him, and he was tormented by an evil spirit, leading to bouts of irrational behavior (1 Samuel 16:14). In desperation, Saul consulted a medium at Endor,
• Impatience and Poor Leadership Saul’s failures also included impatience in military matters. For example, he imposed an oath on his troops that prevented them from eating during battle, weakening them, while his son Jonathan unknowingly ate honey and regained strength
• Consequences Saul’s failures—disobedience, jealousy, impatience, and spiritual decline—led to God’s rejection of his kingship, the loss of divine favor, and ultimately his death in battle
3. God felt it was time God’s Verdict on Saul
• “Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He has rejected you as king.” 1 Samuel 15:23
• God does not reject people for lack of talent, but for lack of obedience.
• Adam and Eve (Genesis 3): Disobeyed by eating the forbidden fruit, resulting in the fall of humanity, shame, pain in childbirth, toil, and physical death.
• Jonah (Jonah 1): Disobeyed God's command to go to Nineveh, resulting in a great storm, being thrown into the sea, and being swallowed by a large fish.
• Lot’s Wife (Genesis 19): Looked back at Sodom in disobedience, becoming a pillar of salt.
4. GOD CHOSE David as the new King

• small town perhaps an unknown family
• A shepherd boy is Chosen not even invited to the meeting
5. Why God chose David “Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”1 Samuel 16:7
• David had Faith and Courage: David trusted God completely, as shown in his victory over Goliath, relying on God’s power rather than armor or human strength (1 Samuel 17:47).
• David was Obedient and Humble : He respected Saul as the Lord’s anointed, refusing to harm him even when given the opportunity.
• David was willing to repent David was willing to admit his sins and repent, exemplified in his remorse after the incident with Bathsheba and Uriah.
