Isaiah 53 WHO HATH BELIEVED OUR REPORT? 1-The reception--"Who hath believed?" 2-The report--"Our report" 3-The revelation- and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? The Revelation Of:- I.THE SERVANT... VS. 1-4... WE SEE
I. His Arrival...2a. For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant,
2. His Appearance... 2b. he hath no form nor comeliness;
3. His Abhorrence... 3. He is despised and rejected of men;
4. His Affliction... 4. "Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted".
II. THE SAVIOUR... VS.5-l0... WE SEE
I. Jesus is the Only SUBSTITUTE for Sin
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
A. All are Sinners - All we like sheep have gone astray
the universality of sin...in Adam positionally and in life actually.
B. All are Self-willed. - we have turned every one to his own way;
Every sin is an act of the will.
C. All are Supplied. - and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
All are included in the problem of sin, and all are included in the provision of a substitute.
An old English preacher had boarded the train and was about to leave. A young lady yelled, “Please sir, I want to be saved.” he said, “go home and read Isaiah 53:6.
Go in on the first ‘all’ and come out on the second ‘all’ and you will be all right.”
I Timothy 2:5,6 “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for ALL.”
The provision for sin is as extensive as the extent of sin.
Hebrews 2:9 says, “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for EVERY man.”
Romans 8:32 “He that spared not his own son, but delivered him up for us ALL.”
II. Jesus is the Only SAVIOUR for Sinners. - “Look unto ME, and be ye saved”
Jesus is the complete Saviour. He is only Saviour. He needs no one else to help Him.
“I am THE way, THE truth, THE life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by ME.”
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among me, whereby we must be saved.”
A Saviour is NEEDED BY ALL, OFFERED TO ALL, SUPPLIED BY ONE.
I John 4:1 “And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.”
John 3:17 “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
A. Every Creature B. Every Climate C. Every Colour D. Every Character E.Every Class
Jesus is the only HOPE of the world!
III. Jesus is the Only SUCCOUR for Sorrows.
II Cors 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
He can handle the fire, the lions, the winds and waves.
Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
IV. Jesus is the Only SOURCE for Service.
Mt 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
A. Terms for which Jesus demanded
1. Loyalty to His person & 2. Identity to His purpose (“bear his cross”)
a daily identification with Christ in shame, suffering, and surrender to God’s will.
B. Task to which Jesus designated - come after me
C. Truths of which Jesus declared - let him deny himself
1. He spoke of what they would reject
There must be a rejection self and our own plans and a willingness to serve Him
2. He spoke of what they must renounce - Everything must go on the altar!
