Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas

Sermons

Summary: This sermon looks at the three titles about the newborn baby shared in Luke 2:11. It then unpacks what that title means and what it tells me about who I am and how I should live my life.

- In the midst of this Christmas proclamation from the angel, verse 11 has an amazing amount of information about this newborn child. Specifically, it shares three titles with us that each point us to a different aspect of who this child is.

- As we unpack these titles, each gives us insight into Jesus.

- I want to share the meaning of each title, reference one of the things we say about ourselves that is relevant to that title, unpack what the title says about me, and then ask how we should respond.

Three Titles, Three Insights:

- Luke 2:11.

1. The title “Savior” means “Deliverer.”

a. What do I say about me? “I’m a good person.”

b. What does this title say about me? I’m a hopeless sinner.

c. How do I respond? You need rescued and Jesus did that at the cross.

2. The title “Christ” means “Anointed One.”

a. What do I say about me? “I am the most important person.”

b. What does this title say about me? The world needs more help than you can provide.

c. How do I respond? I follow the one who is uniquely able.

3. The title “Lord” means “Master.”

a. What do I say about me? “I’m calling the shots.”

b. What does this title say about me? I’m not the boss of my life anymore.

c. How do I respond? I am a servant.
