This sermon explores Moses' transformation and divine purpose, reminding us of God's love and His unique plan for each of our lives.
Good morning and welcome to our sanctuary of shared faith, where we gather to celebrate the enduring love and infinite wisdom of our Heavenly Father. As we gather here today, let us remember that we are not just here to listen and learn, but to grow and glow in His divine light.
Today, we're going to look at the life of Moses, a man who was transformed by God, and used as an instrument for His divine purpose. A man who was given a mandate that changed not just his life, but the destiny of an entire nation.
Rick Warren, a man whose words have guided many souls to the path of righteousness, once said, "What happens outwardly in your life is not as important as what happens inside you. Your circumstances are temporary, but your character will last forever." Moses, despite the circumstances that life gave him, was a man of good character, established by God Himself. His story is not just a testament of God's power, but a reminder of His love for us, His children.
Let us now turn to the scripture for today. Exodus 2 & 3, it reads as follows:
"During this time, a man from the tribe of Levi married a woman of his own tribe, and she bore him a son. Seeing that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months. But when she could no longer hide him, she took a basket made of bulrushes and daubed it with tar and pitch. She put the child in it and laid it among the reeds by the river's bank. His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him.
Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river, and her maidens walked along the riverside. Seeing the basket among the reeds, she sent her maid to fetch it. When she opened it, she saw the child, and the baby wept. So she had compassion on him and said, 'This is one of the Hebrews' children.' Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, 'Shall I go and call a nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?' And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, 'Go.' So the girl went and called the child's mother. Pharaoh's daughter said to her, 'Take this child and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.' So the woman took the child and nursed him. When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, “I drew him out of the water.””— Exodus 2:1-10
“When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian, where he sat down by a well. Now a priest of Midian had seven daughters, and they came to draw water and fill the troughs to water their father’s flock. Some shepherds came along and drove them away, but Moses got up and came to their rescue and watered their flock.”— Exodus 2:15-17
And Exodus 3:
Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. Then Moses said, 'I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.'When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am."
Are we not all like Moses in some way? Have we not all been in the wilderness, unsure of our direction, uncertain of our purpose? Have we not all had moments of self-doubt, moments when we questioned our worth and our abilities? And yet, just like Moses, we are all chosen by God, loved by God, and used by God for His divine purpose.
So, let us take a closer look at Moses' metamorphosis, his manifestation at the well, and his life’s mandate. Let's allow these stories to inspire us, to encourage us, and to remind us of God's unfailing love and His divine purpose for each of us.
