God's promises are unchanging and He provides comfort and strength in challenging times, thus we should always trust in His faithfulness.
Good morning, dear brothers and sisters. Today, we're going to dive into a powerful verse from the book of Numbers that reminds us of God's faithfulness, his unchanging promises, and how he provides comfort and strength in challenging times.
Numbers 23:19 says,
"God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?"
This verse reminds us that God's promises are rock solid, and he never fails to fulfill them.
In this troubled world, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and lost. We face challenges, disappointments, and hardships. But in those moments, we must remember the faithfulness of our Lord.
As A.W. Tozer said, "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." How we perceive God and his promises has a profound effect on how we face life's ups and downs.
So, let's start our journey today, understanding that God's promises are unchanging, and His comfort and strength are always available to us. Let’s pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, as we open Your Word today, we ask for your guidance. Help us to comprehend the depth of Your faithfulness, the certainty of Your promises, and the comfort and strength You provide in our difficult times. Amen.
Let’s get started.
God's faithfulness in difficult times is the assurance that no matter what we go through, God is there with us, steadfast and unchanging. This idea is rooted in the belief that God, unlike humans, does not lie or change His mind. He is consistent in His promises and actions, and this consistency is a source of strength and comfort during challenging times.
Not a passive quality: It is active, dynamic, and manifests in various ways. One of the most profound demonstrations of God's faithfulness is His presence during our trials. The Bible is filled with stories of individuals who faced immense difficulties, yet they were not alone. God was with them, guiding them, providing for them, and ultimately delivering them. This is not just a historical fact, but a present reality for believers today. God's faithfulness means that He is with us in our struggles, providing comfort, guidance, and strength.
His unchanging nature: In a world that is constantly changing, where circumstances can shift in an instant, the constancy of God is a comforting reality. God's character, His promises, and His love for us do not change. This means that even when our circumstances are challenging, we can trust in God's faithfulness. His promises are not dependent on our circumstances or our ability to keep our promises. They are based solely on His unchanging nature.
His provision: In difficult times, it can be easy to focus on what we lack or what we have lost. However, God's faithfulness assures us that He will provide for our needs. This provision may not always look like what we expect, but it is always what we need. It may be physical provision, such as food or shelter, or it may be emotional or spiritual provision, such as peace, comfort, or strength. Regardless of the form it takes, God's provision is a testament to His faithfulness.
His promises: The Bible is filled with promises that God has made to His people. These promises are not empty words, but commitments that God will fulfill. When we face difficult times, these promises provide hope and assurance. They remind us that our current struggles are temporary and that God has a plan for our good and His glory.
More than a theoretical exercise: It has practical implications for how we live our lives. It influences how we respond to challenges, how we interact with others, and how we view our future. It provides a foundation of hope and assurance that can sustain us in the most challenging circumstances.
