When it’s all Said and Done!
Luke 16:19-31
Mat 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Mat 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
In the text Jesus focuses on the destination. He tells us that we need to focus on the destination not necessarily the Journey. The one that will make heaven their home is the one that keep their eye on the prize.
Jesus’ words all boiled down to what is important “When it is all said and done”
1.) Riches won’t Matter
Rich man had it all….
• Jesus taught that obtaining of wealth does not produce or equate to righteousness.
Mar 10:25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
• In other words the accumulation of wealth is often an enemy to righteousness.
In His teachings on this matter, He cautions that great spiritual danger awaits when we own a lot of money or things.
And so He says to His disciples in the Sermon on the Mount, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal” (Matt. 6:19).
When a man asked how he should divide an inheritance with his brother, Jesus tells him “Beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth” (Luke 12:15).
To the rich young ruler who desired eternal life, He said, “Sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven” (Mark 10:21).
The young man turned away sorrofully and so Jesus states, “How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!” (Mark 10:23).
When it is all said and done: Riches won’t matter.
Secondly, When it is all said and done: Excuses won’t matter
2.) Excuses won’t matter… lend me your minds eye!!
It states that he opened his eyes in hell!!
• Imagine having an opportunity to talk to someone in hell.
• Imagine being able to ask them why?
Some might say …
- Some might say...I thought I was a good person.
- Some might say...I tried to live by my works.
- Some might say...I thought I had more time to straighten myself out
- Some might say... Because I became disenfranchised with the church.. After all there are many hypocrites there.
- Some might say...I was religious but not righteous..
Some might say...Satan had me going to church (the wrong one)
Some might say...Satan had me worshipping God (the wrong way)
Some might say...Satan had me accepting Christ instead of Obeying the Gospel.
And because of that I was one of those that heard the most piercing words that ever came out of the mouth of Jesus!
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
In Matt 7:22 I was giving the lord my credentials.!!
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
In HELL NO EXCUSE WILL SUFICE. !!!
What will an excuse be worth in Hell?
- Jesus told a story of a man who entrusted in his Servants some money.
- He wanted them to make money with the money he gave them. 1 made 5 more.. 1 made 2 more .. 1 made 0..
Question for U … Did he have an excuse? YES.... DID IT MATTER?
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
When it is all said and done: Riches won’t matter.
When it is all said and done: Excuses won’t matter
Thirdly, When it is all said and done: The Journey won’t matter
1.) The Journey won’t matter
Example of Both Rich Man and Especially Lazarus..
• His Journey was paved with thorn bushes and Briar Patches
• No Gold was paved in his path.. No Rose pedals adorned his walk way
• His life was full of trouble…. He understood Jobs statement, Job 5:7 Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.
Since his birth the sprays of trouble were going everywhere.
Brothers and Sisters.. we need to remember that this world is not our home!!!
